Common mistakes
  • Expecting it to stop effects activated in the hand, GY or Extra Deck. It doesn't.

How it works

Dimensional Barrier is a Normal Trap. Declare 1 monster card type (Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Pendulum). For the rest of this turn, neither player can Special Summon monsters of that type, also negate the effects of all monsters of that type while they’re on the field. You can only activate 1 per turn.

Status: Forbidden in the TCG (Sept 21, 2026 list), so it can’t be used in Advanced Format.

Rulings in plain English

Declaring: You can declare a type that isn’t on the field. Not in the Damage Step.

Summon lock: Covers face-down Special Summons too.

Negation: Applies to effects activated on the field if the monster is still face-up when they resolve, and to its non-activated effects. It doesn’t negate effects activated in the hand, GY, banishment or Extra Deck, effects of a monster no longer face-up on the field at resolution (like one that left as a cost), or effects a monster uses as a Spell/Trap Card.
