Explained

What it does

Send any number of other cards from your hand or field to the GY to negate the effects and halve the ATK of that many of your opponent's Effect Monsters until the end of the turn. Your opponent can't respond with cards of the same type you sent.

Play it when

When your opponent has one or more monsters whose effects or ATK stand in your way, especially before attacking, since it can be used up to the start of damage calculation.

Common mistakes
  • Sending more cards than your opponent has eligible monsters. You can't.
  • Sending Tokens as the cost. Its FAQ says Tokens can't be used.
  • Forgetting the chain lock depends on what you sent: send a Monster, Spell and Trap and your opponent can't respond with any of those types.

How it works

Forbidden Droplet is a Quick-Play Spell. As the cost, send any number of other cards from your hand and/or field to the GY, then choose that many Effect Monsters your opponent controls. Until the end of the turn, their ATK is halved and their effects are negated.

Your opponent can’t respond to its activation with cards or effects of the same original type (Monster, Spell or Trap) as the cards you sent. You can only activate 1 “Forbidden Droplet” per turn.

When to use it

Droplet scales with what you’re willing to pay. Mixing card types in the cost widens the chain lock: for example, sending a Monster and a Trap stops your opponent responding with monster effects or Traps. Because it can be activated in the Damage Step before damage calculation, it also works as a combat trick.

Rulings in plain English

Can I use it in the Damage Step? Yes, but only before damage calculation.

How many cards can I send? Up to the number of your opponent’s monsters it can affect. Tokens can’t be sent.

What if there are fewer eligible monsters at resolution than cards sent? Nothing happens.

Can I choose a monster that’s already negated with 0 ATK? Yes; its ATK stays 0.

What if the monster leaves the field or flips face-down? The halving and negation stop applying. If it left as a cost for its own effect, or because of something chained, that effect isn’t negated.

Is the chain lock an effect? No, it’s a rule on the card.
