Gozen Match

Continuous Trap

Card text

Each player can only control 1 Attribute of monster. Send all other face-up monsters they control to the GY.

Property
Continuous

Explained

What it does

A Continuous Trap. While it's face-up, each player can only control face-up monsters of a single Attribute, and must send all their other face-up monsters to the GY.

Play it when

Against decks that mix Attributes, as a 1-copy Trap since it's Limited in the TCG.

Common mistakes
  • Thinking you declare an Attribute. You don't; you just can't have two at once.
  • Forgetting it also stops you from summoning monsters of a second Attribute face-up.

How it works

Status: Limited in the TCG (Sept 21, 2026 list), so you can run 1 copy.

Gozen Match is a Continuous Trap. Each player can only control face-up monsters of 1 Attribute, and must send all their other face-up monsters to the GY.

Rulings in plain English

Activation: Any time except the Damage Step.

Not an activated effect: It applies while the card is face-up. Sending monsters to the GY doesn’t start a Chain, and it applies even in the Damage Step. The monsters sent aren’t treated as sent by a Trap effect, so Trap protection doesn’t save them.

No declaring: You never name an Attribute. If a player has monsters of 2+ Attributes when it applies, they choose which to send so only 1 Attribute is left.

Summon lock: While a player has a face-up monster, they can’t Normal Summon, Flip Summon or Special Summon face-up a monster of a different Attribute. The same goes for putting a monster onto your opponent’s field. Face-down Sets are still allowed.

Later changes: If a flip or a control change puts 2 Attributes on one field, the monster that arrived face-up later is sent. If several are flipped or summoned at once, some or all of those new monsters are sent.
