Explained

What it does

A Link-2 that banishes a card on the field or in either GY when Link Summoned using an Extra Deck monster, and can banish 2 face-up monsters (including one of yours) until the End Phase when your opponent activates something.

Play it when

As a generic Link-2 in any deck that can make 2 Effect Monsters. Its second effect can also save one of your monsters from removal while taking one of your opponent's off the field.

Common mistakes
  • Expecting the first effect when using only Main Deck monsters. It needs a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link Monster as material.
  • Attacking directly after the first effect. Your monsters can't attack directly that turn.
  • Forgetting the second effect must include a monster you control.

How it works

Materials: 2 Effect Monsters.

First effect (Trigger): If it’s Link Summoned using a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link Monster as material, target 1 card on the field or in either GY and banish it. Your monsters can’t attack directly this turn.

Second effect (Quick): When your opponent activates a card or effect, target 2 face-up monsters on the field, including one you control, and banish both until the End Phase.

You can use each effect once per turn.

When to use it

Little Knight goes in almost any deck that can make two Effect Monsters, which is why it’s so widely viewed. The second effect is flexible: banishing one of your monsters with one of theirs can dodge removal, reset a monster, or clear a blocker for an attack.

Rulings in plain English

First effect

  • It still applies “can’t attack directly” even if the banish fails, as long as the effect wasn’t negated.
  • You can use it even if one of your monsters already attacked directly this turn; the restriction starts when it resolves.
  • A face-down card it banishes is banished face-up.
  • Monsters placed on your field later that turn are also stopped from attacking directly.

Second effect

  • Both targets must still be in the Monster Zone at resolution, or nothing happens.
  • If one target is unaffected, the other is still banished.
  • A face-down Defense Position monster is banished face-down and comes back face-down.
  • The monsters come back in the End Phase in the same position. That isn’t a Special Summon, and it doesn’t start a chain.
  • It can’t be activated during the Damage Step.
