Target 1 monster your opponent controls; this turn, if you Tribute a monster, you must Tribute that target as if you controlled it. You can't conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate it.
To use your opponent's monster for a Tribute Summon or other Tribute.
- Activating it after your Battle Phase. You can't.
- Tributing only your own monsters afterward. The target must be part of the Tribute.
How it works
Soul Exchange is a Normal Spell. Target 1 monster your opponent controls; this turn, if you Tribute a monster, you must Tribute that target as if you controlled it. You can’t conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card.
Rulings in plain English
Tributing: While the target is on your opponent’s field, any Tribute you make must include it in place of one of your monsters. If it isn’t a valid Tribute for that card, you can’t make that Tribute.
If the target changes: If it becomes Xyz Material or is turned face-down, you no longer have to Tribute it. You still can’t conduct your Battle Phase.
No Battle Phase: A condition, not an effect. You can’t activate it if you’ve already had your Battle Phase this turn.
