Explained

What it does

Can't be Special Summoned. Normal Summon it with 3 Tributes from either side to that side of the field; control returns to its owner in the End Phase of the next turn. It can't attack, your opponent can't target it, and you can Tribute it to summon "The Winged Dragon of Ra" with 4000 ATK/DEF.

Play it when

Against boards your opponent can't otherwise clear: Tribute three of their monsters to summon it to their field, where it's stuck until it returns to you.

Common mistakes
  • Trying to Set it. It can only be Normal Summoned face-up.
  • Using its Ra summon when Ra can't be summoned.

How it works

  • Summoning: Can’t be Special Summoned. To Normal Summon it, Tribute 3 monsters from either side of the field; it’s summoned to that side. Control shifts to its owner during the End Phase of the next turn. It can’t be Set.
  • Can’t attack. Your opponent can’t target it for attacks or with card effects.
  • Ignition: Tribute this card to Special Summon 1 “The Winged Dragon of Ra” from your hand or Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions; its ATK/DEF become 4000.

When to use it

Summoning it onto your opponent’s field with their own monsters as Tributes removes three monsters without targeting or destroying, and leaves them with a monster that can’t attack. It comes back to you later.

Rulings in plain English

ATK/DEF: Treated as 0 on the field when needed.

Can’t be attacked: If it’s your only monster, your opponent’s affected monsters can’t attack. Monsters unaffected by monster effects can still attack it.

Can’t be targeted: Applies to your opponent as a player, so even their unaffected cards can’t target it.

Ra summon: Can’t be activated if Ra can’t be summoned. Only “The Winged Dragon of Ra” itself. The 4000 ATK/DEF lasts while it’s face-up.

Control return: Still happens if it’s flipped face-down on your opponent’s field, but not if it was temporarily banished and returned.

The Winged Dragon of Ra, Slifer the Sky Dragon.
