Explained

What it does

As a monster, neither player can Special Summon from the Extra Deck except "Amorphage" monsters. In the Pendulum Zone, while you control an "Amorphage" monster, neither player can add cards from the Deck to the hand except by drawing. Each Standby Phase you Tribute a monster or destroy it.

Play it when

In Amorphage decks, against decks that search to build their turn. With an Amorphage monster on the field, their searches stop working.

Common mistakes
  • Thinking the Standby Phase Tribute can be negated. It's a cost to keep the card, not an effect.
  • Expecting the search lock with no Amorphage monster on your field. The Pendulum effect only applies while you control one.
  • Forgetting the search lock hits you too. You can still draw, but you can't search.

How it works

Sloth is a Level 6 Pendulum monster with a lock on each side of the card.

  • Monster effect: while it’s on the field, neither player can Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except “Amorphage” monsters.
  • Pendulum effect: while you control an “Amorphage” monster, neither player can add cards from their Deck to their hand, except by drawing them.
  • Upkeep: once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you Tribute 1 monster or destroy this card.

When to use it

Sloth is the search-stopping piece of the Amorphage lock. Most competitive decks search several times a turn. With Sloth in the Pendulum Zone and an Amorphage monster on the field, none of those searches work, and the monster side blocks their Extra Deck too.

Ban list status

At YCS Houston 2026 (October 16), Konami announced that Amorphage Sloth goes to Forbidden on the next TCG list. See every reveal so far. It stays Unlimited until the new list takes effect; this card’s page always shows its current status.

Rulings in plain English

Is the Standby Phase Tribute an effect? No. Tributing a monster (or destroying this card) every Standby Phase is a cost to keep it in the Pendulum Zone. It doesn’t start a chain, so it can’t be negated.

When does the search lock apply? Only while Sloth is in your Pendulum Zone and you control at least one face-up “Amorphage” monster. It doesn’t start a chain. Normal draws are unaffected.

What exactly does the monster effect stop? While it’s face-up in the Monster Zone, neither player can Special Summon anything from the Extra Deck except “Amorphage” monsters. That covers every method: Pendulum Summons from the Extra Deck, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Link and card effects. Special Summons from the hand, Deck or GY still work as normal.

Does it start a chain? No. It’s a continuous effect that applies as long as the card stays face-up on the field.
