Explained

What it does

During your opponent's Main Phase, send it from your hand to the GY to negate the effects of 1 face-up Effect Monster your opponent controls until the end of the turn.

Play it when

On your opponent's turn, after they summon a monster whose effect their combo needs, before or in response to that monster's effect.

Common mistakes
  • Using it outside your opponent's Main Phase. It only works then.
  • Expecting it to work if the monster leaves the field first. The negation needs the monster face-up at resolution.
  • Forgetting that a monster that leaves the field as a cost for its own effect still resolves that effect.

How it works

During your opponent’s Main Phase, you can send Effect Veiler from your hand to the GY, then target 1 Effect Monster your opponent controls. That face-up monster’s effects are negated until the end of the turn.

When to use it

Veiler is a simple, flexible hand trap: it answers any face-up Effect Monster, as long as it’s your opponent’s Main Phase. Because the target stays negated for the turn, using it early can stop a monster from using any of its effects that turn.

Rulings in plain English

What if the target isn’t face-up in the Monster Zone at resolution? Nothing happens.

What if the monster is flipped face-down later? The negation stops applying.

What if the monster leaves the field to activate its own effect? If it left the Monster Zone as a cost, or because of something chained, Veiler doesn’t negate the effect it had already activated.

Does sending Veiler count as the cost? Yes, it’s sent to the GY when you activate the effect.

Infinite Impermanence negates a monster too and can be used outside the Main Phase. See our hand traps guide.
