Explained
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; until the end of the turn, it gains 400 ATK but its effects are negated.
To negate an opponent's monster on either turn, or as a battle trick since it can be used in the Damage Step.
- Forgetting the monster gains 400 ATK, which can matter in battle.
- Expecting it to work if the monster leaves the field or flips face-down first.
How it works
Forbidden Chalice is a Quick-Play Spell. Target 1 face-up monster on the field. Until the end of the turn, it gains 400 ATK, but its effects are negated.
When to use it
It’s a simple, instant-speed way to negate a monster. Because it changes ATK, it can also be used in the Damage Step, for example to negate a monster that gains ATK through its effect.
Rulings in plain English
Can it target my own monster? Yes, either side.
Can I use it in the Damage Step? Yes, from the start of the Damage Step until before damage calculation.
Are the ATK gain and negation simultaneous? Yes.
What if the target is gone or face-down? At resolution nothing happens; later, the effect stops applying. If the monster leaves the field as a cost for its own effect or because of something chained, that effect isn’t negated.
