Explained
Discard it as a Quick Effect to either make the next battle or effect damage you take this turn 0, or Set a Quick-Play Spell or Trap that mentions "Light and Darkness Ritual" from your Deck, usable this turn. It can also be the entire Tribute for a Level 8 Ritual Monster.
In Light and Darkness Ritual decks, to Set a key Quick-Play or Trap you can use right away, or as a one-card Tribute for a Level 8 Ritual Monster.
- Using it in the Damage Step. Its FAQ says the discard effect can't be activated then.
- Forgetting the Tribute ability doesn't work if Griffoh's effects are negated.
How it works
-
Quick Effect (from hand): Discard Griffoh and choose one:
- The next battle or effect damage you take this turn becomes 0.
- Set 1 Quick-Play Spell or Trap that mentions “Light and Darkness Ritual” from your Deck. It can be activated this turn.
Once per turn.
-
Ritual Tribute: If you Ritual Summon exactly 1 Level 8 Ritual Monster with a card effect that requires monsters, Griffoh can be the entire Tribute.
When to use it
Setting a card that can be used the same turn means you can find and play a Light and Darkness Ritual Trap on your opponent’s turn. Its Tribute ability saves cards when you Ritual Summon a Level 8.
Rulings in plain English
Can I use the discard effect in the Damage Step? No.
How do I choose? Pick one option when you activate it.
Where can the Tribute ability apply? In the hand, face-down on the field, and even when you banish it from the GY instead of Tributing, if a card allows that. It doesn’t work while Griffoh’s effects are negated.
How does the damage option work? The first damage you take after it resolves becomes 0. That doesn’t start a chain.
