Explained

What it does

Discard 1 card to Fusion Summon a Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck using monsters from either player's field as material. Neither player can respond to its activation.

Play it when

On either player's turn when your opponent controls a monster that can be Fusion Material for one of your Fusion Monsters, to remove it from the field.

Common mistakes
  • Using your opponent's face-down monsters. You can use your own face-down monsters, but not theirs.
  • Trying to respond to it with any card. Neither player can activate cards or effects in response to its activation.
  • Using it in the Damage Step. Its FAQ says it can't be activated then.

How it works

Super Polymerization is a Quick-Play Spell. Discard 1 card as the cost, then Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck using monsters from either field as material. Neither player can activate cards or effects in response to its activation.

When to use it

Using your opponent’s monsters as Fusion Material removes them from the field without targeting or destroying them, and you get a Fusion Monster in the process. Because nothing can chain to it, your opponent can’t respond to save the monster once you activate it. It’s strongest in decks with Fusion Monsters that use broad materials, like an Attribute or Type.

Rulings in plain English

Are the materials sent and the summon simultaneous? No. The materials are used first, then the Fusion Monster is summoned.

What if an effect sends the materials somewhere other than the GY? The summon still happens, as long as the materials left the field.

Can I use face-down monsters? Your own, yes. Your opponent’s, no.

Is “can’t be responded to” an effect? No, it’s a rule on the card, so it applies even though the card is a Spell.

Can I use it in the Damage Step? No.

Polymerization is the basic Fusion Spell. See every way to summon a monster.
