Explained

What it does

Target and banish 1 monster your opponent controls; then, if you have no Traps in your GY, your opponent can Special Summon a monster from their hand. The turn your opponent activates a monster effect in the hand or GY, you can activate it from your hand, but then you can't activate EARTH, WATER, FIRE or WIND monster effects for the rest of the duel.

Play it when

As removal after your opponent uses a hand trap or Graveyard effect, especially in decks whose monsters are LIGHT or DARK if you plan to activate it from the hand.

Common mistakes
  • Activating it from the hand in a deck that uses EARTH, WATER, FIRE or WIND monster effects.
  • Forgetting your opponent may get a summon from hand if you have no Traps in your GY.

How it works

Dominus Spark is a Normal Trap. Target 1 monster your opponent controls and banish it. Then, if you have no Traps in your GY, your opponent can Special Summon 1 monster from their hand.

Hand activation: During a turn in which your opponent activated a monster effect in the hand or GY, you can activate it from your hand. If you do, you can’t activate the effects of EARTH, WATER, FIRE and WIND monsters for the rest of the duel. You can only activate 1 “Dominus Spark” per turn.

When to use it

Hand traps and Graveyard effects are common, so the hand activation condition is often met. The cost is heavy: only LIGHT and DARK monster effects remain usable for you afterward.

Rulings in plain English

Can I activate it if my opponent has no cards in hand or can’t summon? Yes.

What happens at resolution? Banish the target. If that works and you have no Trap in your GY, your opponent can summon from their hand. The two don’t happen at the same time.

What if I target a Token? It’s banished (and disappears), and your opponent can still summon if you have no Traps in your GY.

When can I use the hand activation? In a chain right after your opponent activates a hand or GY monster effect, or later that turn if that activation wasn’t negated.

Does the restriction apply if the banish fails? Yes, as long as Spark itself wasn’t negated.

Can I use it in the Damage Step? No.

Dominus Impulse, Dominus Purge.
