If another Reptile monster(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can Tribute this card instead. You can only use each effect of "Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa" once per turn.

Explained
When Normal or Special Summoned, or Tributed, add a "Mitsurugi" monster from your Deck. If another Reptile you control would be destroyed, you can Tribute this card instead.
In Mitsurugi decks as a starter that searches, then later protects your Ritual boss by Tributing itself, which searches again.
- Using the protection when Aramasa itself is being destroyed at the same time. It doesn't work then.
How it works
- When Normal or Special Summoned, or Tributed: Add 1 “Mitsurugi” monster from your Deck to your hand, except this card.
- Replacement: If another Reptile monster you control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can Tribute this card instead.
Each effect is once per turn.
When to use it
Tributing it to save another Reptile also triggers its search, so protecting a monster like Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi gets you a new card.
Rulings in plain English
Search: A Trigger Effect from the Monster Zone, or from wherever it lands after being Tributed. Usable in the Damage Step.
Replacement: Doesn’t start a chain. For battle, you decide during damage calculation and Tribute after. It can save several Reptiles destroyed at once by one effect, but not if Aramasa is destroyed at the same time.
