Explained

What it does

An Ashtra monster you can Special Summon from your hand by returning a face-down card. During your Main Phase it Sets an "Ashtra" Spell/Trap from your Deck, and on your opponent's turn it can raise or lower a monster's Level by 1.

Play it when

In Ashtra decks to set up Spells and Traps and to adjust Levels for Synchro Summons.

Common mistakes
  • Using the Level change on your own turn. It only works during your opponent's turn.

How it works

  • Summon from hand: Reveal 1 face-down card you control and return it to the hand or Extra Deck to Special Summon this card from your hand (once per turn this way). This is a summoning procedure: it doesn’t start a chain, you return the card first and then summon, and if the summon is negated you can try again that turn.
  • Your Main Phase: Set 1 “Ashtra” Spell/Trap from your Deck.
  • Quick Effect (opponent’s turn): Target 1 face-up monster on the field and increase or decrease its Level by 1.

Each of the last two effects is once per turn.

When to use it

Setting a card from the Deck is free card advantage, and the face-down card can later be returned to summon other Ashtra monsters from the hand. Changing a Level on your opponent’s turn can line up a Synchro Summon.
