Explained
When a monster on the field, or a face-up Spell/Trap, activates its effect, send this card from your hand or field to the GY to destroy that card.
In response to an effect from a monster or a face-up Continuous or Field card that your opponent needs to stay on the field.
- Thinking it negates the effect. It only destroys the card; the effect still resolves.
- Chaining it to a Spell or Trap card's activation. It only responds to effects of monsters on the field or Spells/Traps that are already face-up.
- Expecting it to work if the card leaves the field first. If the card is gone at resolution, nothing happens.
How it works
Ghost Ogre is a Quick Effect usable from your hand or the field. When a monster on the field activates its effect, or a Spell/Trap that’s already face-up on the field activates its effect, send Ghost Ogre to the GY to destroy that card. You can only use this effect of “Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit” once per turn.
When to use it
Ghost Ogre removes the card, not the effect. It’s best against monsters or face-up cards that would keep doing damage after this turn, like an engine monster or a Field Spell your opponent’s strategy relies on.
Rulings in plain English
Does it negate anything? No. The effect you chained to still resolves.
Can I chain it to a Spell or Trap being activated from the hand or Set? No. It responds to effects of monsters on the field, or of Spells/Traps that were already face-up.
What if the card leaves the field before Ghost Ogre resolves? Nothing happens.
Can I use it in the Damage Step? No.
