Beyond the Brave (BETB) is a 100-card core booster set. It hit Official Tournament Stores on October 7, 2026, went on general sale on October 9, and has been tournament legal since October 9. Packs are $4.49.
Konami pitches the set on four themes: Dark Time Wizard support for Joey’s deck, new Destiny HERO cards for Aster Phoenix, the Atlantis “Umi” theme, and Ashtra, a Trap theme. There’s also a world premiere card, Audhumla, Progenitor of the Frozen Expanse, and support for existing decks like Endymion and Clown Crew.
For competitive players, the bigger story is two engines the box art doesn’t mention: Ars Magna, which plugs into Elfnote and Artmage, and a wave of new Angelechy cards.

The cards that change the meta
Ars Magna “Citrinitas”
Ars Magna “Citrinitas” is a Continuous Spell that counts as an Artmage, DoomZ and Elfnote card. Once while it’s face-up, during your Main Phase, it searches a Medius or Ars Magna monster. While you control a Power Patron Link Monster, your Ars Magna monsters can use their effects as Quick Effects. Because it counts as an Elfnote card, it slots straight into Elfnote decks alongside Elfnote Power Patron.
Theorealized Medius
Theorealized Medius is treated as a Power Patron card. If a Power Patron card is on the field, it Special Summons itself from your hand and can search a Theorealize Spell or Trap. Whenever a monster is banished face-up, it can search an Ars Magna card or banish itself to summon a Diactorus monster from the Extra Deck. Ars Magna monsters banish themselves from the hand, so the two feed each other.
The Ars Magna monsters
Each of the three Level 8 Ars Magna monsters banishes itself from your hand for an effect, comes back when a certain kind of Extra Deck monster is summoned while it’s banished, and has a third effect that cares about Power Patron Links.
- Ars Magna the Finite and the Infinite: banish from hand to search a non-Warrior Ars Magna monster and triple your Power Patron Links’ original ATK for the turn. With a Power Patron Link out, it banishes a monster on the field.
- Ars Magna the Division and the Union: banish from hand to revive a non-Spellcaster Ars Magna from the GY or banishment. It also draws a card by banishing an Ars Magna card from your GY.
- Ars Magna the Corruption and the Purification: banish from hand to search an Ars Magna Spell or Trap. It can also banish Spells and Traps on the field, one per Power Patron Link you control.
Mediclius the Extraordinary Power Patron
Mediclius the Extraordinary Power Patron is a 3000 ATK Link-3 that needs a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link Monster among its materials. Pointing to one monster, it negates your opponent’s face-up monsters and halves their ATK once per turn. Pointing to two, it’s unaffected by your opponent’s activated effects. Pointing to three, it can banish itself on your opponent’s turn to banish everything they control.
The new Angelechy cards
Angelechy is a Spell-heavy Synchro deck that summons its monsters straight from the Extra Deck and parks a second one in the Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell. BETB adds seven cards to it:
- Angelechy Strategy Score searches any other Angelechy Spell or Trap. Later, from the GY, it returns an Angelechy monster from your Spell & Trap Zone to the Extra Deck and lets you summon it.
- Angelechy Opposition summons one Angelechy monster to your opponent’s side of the field and places another in your Spell & Trap Zone. From the GY, it shuffles up to 5 Angelechy cards back into the Deck.
- Angelechy Endgame Problem is a Field Spell that grows with the number of Angelechy monsters in your Spell & Trap Zone: a draw on your opponent’s Standby Phase at 1, control over where they summon at 2, and at 4 it banishes monsters your opponent Special Summons.
- Angelechy Castellan banishes an opposing card based on columns. While it’s a Continuous Spell, each player can only activate 1 card or effect per Chain.
- Angelechy Verdict negates a face-up card, or banishes everything your opponent controls if 5 or more Angelechy cards are on the field.
- Angelechy Brilliant Move and Angelechy Seneschal round out the package.
Hey, Space Trunade!
Hey, Space Trunade! returns up to 2 cards from the field to the hand. Then each player puts cards from their hand on the bottom of their Deck equal to how many of their cards went back. It’s a flexible answer to boards and already shows up in Side Decks.
Early results
Only one weekend of events has been played with BETB legal (October 10-11), mostly small regionals, so treat this as a first look.
- Elfnote Ars Magna took first and second at one regional, won another, and placed second at a third. Elfnote was already the deck to beat before the set: it won YCS Guayaquil and many regionals after Elfnote Tinia went to Limited. Lists now add Citrinitas, Theorealized Medius, the Ars Magna monsters and Mediclius to the Elfnote core.
- Angelechy won a regional, made Top 4 at another, and put copies in two more top cuts. At the regional it won, a second Angelechy deck also made Top 4, and that list plays all seven BETB Angelechy cards.
- Artmage / Power Patron builds with Ars Magna made several top cuts too. They share the Medius and Power Patron core with Elfnote.
One thing to watch for: the Link Monster Ars Magna Elfnote is not in Beyond the Brave and isn’t legal in the TCG yet. If you see it in a decklist, that list is from Japan, which has its own card pool and ban list.
YCS Houston (October 16-18) will be the first large event with the set legal.
New and returning themes
Destiny HERO
Destiny HERO - Doom Overlord banishes an opposing monster until the next Standby Phase when it’s summoned, and can dump a Destiny HERO to fetch Dark City at Midnight or Clock Tower Prison. Dark City searches Destiny HERO cards and summons one from the Deck if it’s destroyed. Destiny HERO - Destro-Dogma is a 3400 ATK monster summoned by banishing 3 Warrior or DARK monsters from your GY, and it can Fusion Summon on your opponent’s turn when they activate a card. Destiny HERO - Dreadnought Master adds 2 Destiny HERO cards to your hand when it’s summoned. Destiny HERO - Dreadnought Servant searches Polymerization.
Dark Time Wizard and Joey support
Dark Time Wizard is now a Quick-Play Spell. One mode searches a card that mentions it and gets it back from the GY at the End Phase. The other mode is the classic coin toss: call it right and you wipe your opponent’s monsters and burn them, call it wrong and you lose your own. Red-Eyes Black Dragon Exceed is a 3400 ATK Fusion that’s unaffected by your opponent’s activated Spells and monster effects and revives a Level 8 or lower monster when summoned.
Atlantis
The Atlantis monsters become Umi while on the field. Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon lowers Levels by 1 and cuts a material from Daedalus Link Summons. Warchief of Atlantis and Call of Atlantis are the searchers, and Azure Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus Rage can send every card on the field except Umi to the GY.
Ashtra
Ashtra monsters Special Summon themselves by revealing a face-down card you control and returning it to the hand. Akasuna the Battle Ashtra flips your opponent’s monsters face-down and Sets an Ashtra Trap from the Deck each End Phase. Mikumari the Banisher Ashtra searches other Ashtra monsters.
Other notable cards
- Audhumla, Progenitor of the Frozen Expanse: Special Summons itself when 4 or more cards are on the field, draws by sending your Spells and Traps to the GY, and flips face-down to protect your face-down cards.
- CXyz Hope Chaos Barian Dragon: with a “Number C” monster as material, your opponent can’t add cards from the Main Deck to their hand except by drawing. In Genesys it started at 100 points.
- Verre, the Maid of Endymion: counts as a Witchcrafter card and searches a Witchcrafter Spell or Trap when it’s Special Summoned.
- Clown Crew Cappello: a Pendulum that summons a non-Pendulum Clown Crew monster from the Deck or Extra Deck when it’s Tributed.
- Elemental Saga Doriado and The Great Gallant Bandit are worth a look for decks that can meet their conditions.
Budget picks
Several of the competitive cards are lower rarities. Angelechy Endgame Problem, Angelechy Opposition, Angelechy Verdict, Ars Magna the Division and the Union, Ars Magna the Corruption and the Purification and Ars Magna “Philosophorum” are all Commons. Citrinitas, Angelechy Brilliant Move and Angelechy Seneschal are Super Rares.
Cards to keep in the binder for now
The coin-toss half of Dark Time Wizard can wipe your own board, so it’s a fun pick rather than a competitive one. The Destiny HERO, Atlantis and Ashtra cards haven’t shown up in early top cuts. That could change once larger events report, but for now they’re best for casual and theme decks.
Should you buy it?
If you play Elfnote, Artmage or Angelechy, yes: this set has cards those decks are already using. If you’re here for Destiny HERO, Atlantis or Joey’s cards, the themes are playable at locals, but buy singles for the cards you need rather than chasing them in packs.
